Since its establishment in 2005, Emmetropia has been a leading center in the field of ophthalmology, aiming to provide diagnosis and treatment for vision problems through highly trained staff and the use of state-of-the-art equipment.
Emmetropia has the following unique characteristics:
- Emmetropia is the only ophthalmology clinic in Crete to have received a license as a Day Care Surgery Unit (DCSU) in ophthalmology in 2011.
- Emmetropia was the first private ophthalmology center in Greece to achieve ISO 9001 quality certification for its services in 2006.
- It was 1 of only 5 centers worldwide that participated in the development of the most globally recognized German refractive laser platform, Schwind Amaris, in 2007.
- All Surface Laser Ablation (ASLA): A globally innovative laser eye technology method for myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism, minimizing risks to the cornea and significantly reducing overall treatment time. This technique was developed at Emmetropia by Dr. Aslanidis in 2009.
- In 2006, Emmetropia performed the first successful corneal crosslinking surgery in Crete on a patient suffering from progressive keratoconus.
- Emmetropia is one of the few centers worldwide that, since 2018, in collaboration with Wenzhou University (China), maps DNA abnormalities in keratoconus with the aim of its gene therapy in the future.
- The founder and scientific director of Emmetropia, Dr. Ioannis Aslanidis, is currently the only Greek ophthalmologist unanimously elected as a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in the United Kingdom.
